Book of Weird Practices

For people with bodies

Optional experiments for attention, presence, and weird belonging. Steal them. Annotate them. Disagree. The scan page stays boring on purpose.

Oracles

Ask something that isn’t a feed.

  1. Ask a book

Instead of asking a chatbot: open a physical book at random. Let your eyes land on the first sentence that catches you. Sit with it before you explain it away.

  2. Dream inbox

Phone face-down overnight. On waking, write the first image before you open any feed.

  3. Library labyrinth

Enter a library with no search query. Leave when a title calls. Check out one book you’re not ready for.

  4. Write what you won’t ask a machine

One page — by hand if you can — of questions you keep for humans, books, or yourself. Keep it private unless you choose otherwise.

Body

Use the animal you live in.

  1. Mirror ten minutes

Sit with your face in a mirror. Phone away. Let what arrives arrive — boredom, vanity, grief, joke — and stay until the timer ends.

  2. Ten minutes of silence

No feed, no music, no optimizing the quiet. Sit. If nothing profound happens, that still counts.

  3. One phone-free errand

Run one short errand with the phone off or left behind. Notice what you reach for when nothing pings.

  4. Salt the door

After a hard day, leave a pinch of salt at the threshold. Sweep it out in the morning. Literal reset — no metaphor homework.

  5. Cold-water face

Three full face dunks in cold water. No selfie. Come back to the room you’re in.

Commons

Practice with other people — or for them.

  1. Leave something useful

A kit, a note, a working object for a stranger. No audience required. No streak.

  2. Repair as spell

Mend one broken thing instead of replacing it. While you work, name what else you’re mending — out loud or on paper.

  3. Confess to a tree

Say the thing outdoors, to a tree or open air. Leave no recording. Walk home.

  4. Circle of three

Meet two others. Each shares one practice result. No advice unless someone asks.

  5. Anonymous blessing drop

Leave something useful plus an unsigned note where a stranger will find it. Don’t post it.

On these rails

Same physical internet — stickers, status, vouch — as ritual, not as product homework.

  1. Return to a sticker

Place a live QR on something real. Come back later and read what is true now — status changed, sticker stayed.

  2. Vouch only in person

When you vouch, do it face to face under published rules. Not remote cosplay. Not a DM badge.

  3. Scan as omen

Scan a live QR you’ve never met. Treat the current public status as the sentence of the day — then put the phone away.

  4. Sticker pilgrimage

Walk until you find three public stickers or tags. Note what each place is claiming right now. No map app required if you can help it.

How this works · what it is not
  • This is a field guide, not a creed or spiritual doctrine.
  • Practices are optional. Skipping them does not fail membership or the product.
  • No scores, badges, or purity ladders. Share results if you want — not performance.
  • The public scan and card stay practical: current status, vouch, revoke — not vibes enforcement.
  • Fork, annotate, and disagree. Belonging here is revocable.
