Food freshness tags

Stickers on prepared food, market batches, community-fridge items, or restaurant pans resolve to made when, expires when, allergen notes - and can flip to recalled if safety changes later.

Research, not shipping yet.

When the batch changes

Handwritten dates fade. A live tag lets an organizer or kitchen revoke a batch without chasing every printed label.

  • Fresh at scan time Made 8:30 AM · expires 6 PM · safe to take
  • Recall later Same sticker · scan now shows do not consume - verified by kitchen

Example · community fridge batch

Scan · good

  • Prepared today 8:30 AM
  • Expires today 6 PM
  • Contains: dairy, nuts
  • Verified by host kitchen

Recall issued

  • Batch recalled - do not eat
  • Updated 2h ago
  • Discard if already taken

What the tag can show

  • made at
  • expires at
  • allergens
  • batch id
  • safe / recalled
  • verified by

When freshness becomes aid infrastructure

The same batch tag can sit inside larger cards: pantry maps, crisis resource cards, live menus, and market passes all need fresh, recallable food state.

Crisis resource card

  • Wallet card says where food is available tonight
  • Each linked tray shows made, expires, allergen state
  • Recall updates instantly on every old sticker

Live menu + surplus

  • Restaurant menu marks soup as sold out or donated
  • Surplus tag says safe-to-take until 8 PM
  • Market pass routes people to current availability

Fridge maintenance

  • Fridge QR says temperature check failed
  • Freshness tags flip to hold or discard
  • Kitchen signs food; maintainer signs equipment

Pair with crisis resource cards, live menus, and proof of maintenance.

Food safety is a live claim on a physical batch, not ink that outlives the truth. That is the magic.
